Royal Debacle

October 22nd, 2009 by Don

It was a poor day  by any standards and we really are stuck in a rut currently, The evening’s fare at Kempton was where the real damage was done however as we caught three winners on the card.

The worst result from a financial and indeed professional perspective was that of Royal Intruder who overcame a bad draw, a four pound hike in the weights and our vote of no confidence to surge clear close home and score impressively.

Once rated in the mid -90’s when trained by Richard Hannon, this horse had tumbled to a mark a stone and a half south of that now in the care of Shane Donohoe. Donohoe has placed this horse exceptionally well in his frequent forays to the UK, but where our selecting was sloppy was in not taking heed of the excellent rapport and strike rate Richard Hughes has on this once quirky performer.

Settled off a muddling pace, the horse had the class to use the fortunate splits in the straight and fairly ate up the ground from the furlong pole to have layers spitting feathers at his 11/2 return. Indeed many Donkeyites would have been on at worse prices as the horse was backed through the day.

Poor.
